Yu-zen Washi Tin Canister 7 oz (200g), Paper Washi - Noshi, Blue, With Gold Color Tin Internal Cap, Made in Japan
Kotodo's canisters are designed in the traditional style of Japanese tea canisters, crafted to protect delicate tea leaves from the humidity often experienced in Japan. The canister features a deep overlap between the body and outer lid, along with a metal inner lid, ensuring airtightness and protection from moisture. The cylindrical shape of the canister prevents moisture from accumulating in corners, and the round design is also considered auspicious in Japan. The lid opens smoothly and effortlessly with a simple upward motion—no twisting or prying needed.
Each canister is made using a blend of vintage, manually-operated machines and traditional craftsmanship. While much of the production is handmade, the use of vintage machines in some stages enhances the canister’s safety and precision. The final product is entirely crafted in Japan and meticulously finished by hand.
Product Features:
- Smooth Surface: The finished edges of the lid and body are flush with each other, minimizing friction and prolonging the life of the Washi paper. This smooth finish is both functional and visually pleasing, a hallmark of handmade craftsmanship.
- Pattern Alignment: The lid clicks into place, aligning perfectly with the patterns of the body. This unique feature adds to the canister’s charm and is a distinctive quality of the handmade process.
- Airtight Metal Inner Lid: The gold-colored tin inner lid ensures an airtight seal, protecting the contents from light, humidity, and air. Unlike plastic lids, the metal inner lid does not expand or contract with temperature changes, making it more reliable for long-term storage.
- Beveled Edges for Safety: To prevent injuries, the cut edges of the lid and body are beveled inward, ensuring a smooth and safe user experience.
- Lead-Free and Safe: Kotodo no longer uses leaded solder for canisters, opting instead for electric welding. All canisters are made with lead-free, food-grade steel and tin, ensuring 100% safety for the consumer.
- Signature Bottom: Each canister features Kotodo’s signature embossed on the bottom, confirming its authenticity and craftsmanship.
Why Kotodo Chooses Tin:
- Premium Quality: Tin-plated steel is considered a premium, delicate material in Japan, known for its elegance and sleekness. Kotodo uses extra-soft and delicate tins to make their canisters, though it’s important to handle them with care.
- Eco-Friendly: Tin is 100% recyclable, and in Japan, 90% of tin products are recycled annually. It is one of the most environmentally sustainable materials used for canisters.
- Versatile Material: Tin-plated steel protects the contents from air and light, maintaining an ideal temperature for delicate items like tea leaves. Unlike wood or paper, tin does not deform over time, ensuring your tea stays fresh year-round.

To preserve the quality of your KOTODO canister:
- This product is not suitable for storing liquids and may rust if exposed to water or excessive humidity.
- Avoid hand washing, dishwasher, microwave, or oven use.
- Clean the canister by gently wiping it with a damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth. Ensure it is completely dried after cleaning.
- Rust may occur if the canister is left with moisture on the surface. If rusting occurs, it’s best to discontinue use.
