Kotodo’s canisters are crafted in the traditional Japanese style, designed to preserve the freshness of delicate tea leaves. Japan's humid climate influenced the development of key features such as the airtight inner lid and the deep overlap between the body and outer lid, which ensure optimal protection from moisture. The cylindrical shape prevents moisture buildup in corners, and the round form is traditionally considered auspicious in Japan. The lid opens smoothly with a simple upward motion—no twisting or prying required.

This handmade canister blends traditional craftsmanship with modern precision, as some steps in the production process are performed using vintage machines for enhanced safety. Despite this, most of the canister's creation is still done by hand, ensuring a personal touch.

• Clicking Lid: When closing, the lid clicks into place, aligning the patterns of the cover and body. This feature is unique to handmade products.
• Airtight Metal Inner Lid: Made from high-quality tin with a gold-colored finish, the airtight lid protects the contents from light, air, and humidity. The shape of the knob allows for easy opening, and each lid is meticulously adjusted to fit the body of the canister.
• Beveled Cut Edges: The edges of the lid and body are beveled inward for added safety, preventing accidental injury.
• Lead-Free and Safe: Kotodo has eliminated leaded solder, using electric welding and lead-free materials to ensure the safety of the canister. Each canister is made from food-grade steel and tin.
• Eco-Friendly Material: Tin-plated steel is highly recyclable, and in Japan, 90% of it is recycled annually. It also preserves the contents’ freshness throughout the year, unlike materials that may degrade over time.
