Origin: Japan (Ujitawara, Kyoto)

Ingredients: Japanese green tea

Genmaicha is a gentle blend of roasted and puffed brown rice grains with Sencha, cherished for centuries by green tea enthusiasts in Japan. Matcha powder lightly coats the Sencha leaves and rice, imparting a fresh and mild flavor. Thanks to the rice, this tea carries the rich and robust taste of roasted grains or coffee, yet retains the freshness of Matcha and Sencha. It is well-balanced, flavorful, and smooth. With the addition of Matcha, it becomes mild in taste, and its infusion boasts a light green color, similar to Gyokuro.

In many cases, Genmaicha is made from a mix of puffed rice and lower-grade Sencha, Nibancha (tea from the second harvest of the year), or Sanbancha (tea from the third harvest of the year). Our Genmaicha Matcha-iri is produced exclusively from Ichibancha (tea from the first harvest of the year).

To fully enjoy its virtues, it is recommended to let it steep for 2 to 3 minutes in water at 80°C.

The green tea from Ujitawara, a renowned region in Japan for the production of high-quality teas, offers an exceptional sensory experience. Cultivated under ideal conditions in the heart of the rolling hills of Uji, in the historic city of Kyoto, where the Japanese tradition of green tea began over 1,000 years ago. Today, in Japan, when high-quality green tea is mentioned, Uji comes to mind. The misty climate, sloping hills, warm days, and cool nights provide an ideal setting for the flourishing of tea plants. If you take the train to Kyoto, you will pass through many beautiful green tea plantations in Uji, where you can taste a wide variety of delicious green teas available in specialty shops and restaurants in the region.
