Our Fukamushi Sencha green tea is harvested from the renowned gardens of Chiran, Kagoshima prefecture in Japan. The tea leaves, shaded for seven to nine days before harvesting, are steamed twice as long as for a classic Sencha. This reveals a sweet and intense flavor, a chlorophyll fragrance and a velvety liquor for a high-end tasting.

As with wine and its different varieties of vines, called grape varieties, Japanese tea has many varieties, also called cultivars. So our Fukamushi is made up of three varieties of Sencha : Yutaka midori, Asanoka and Yabukita. The leaves come from the first and second harvest.

All these careful practices, added to its prestigious origin, give our Fukamushi Sencha a soft and slightly sweet flavor, its tannic side being reduced. p>

Fukamushi Sencha is a tea obtained from Sencha leaves steamed twice as long as in the classic process. The cultivation methods and the quality of the leaves used to make Fukamushi are also special. This meticulous care and this specific process gives it a more intense color with a cloudy liquor, a softer flavor very rich in chlorophyll and even more interesting virtues than classic Sencha. The term “Fukamushi” can be translated as “deep steaming”. After harvest, Japanese green tea is steamed, that is to say heated with hot water steam, before drying/kneading, in order to stop the oxidation of the leaves. This operation is called “ sassei » and usually lasts 30 to 40 seconds. The freshly picked leaves of our Fukamushi Sencha are exposed to steam 1.5 to 2 times longer than Sencha.

The Chiran Protected Appellation Area

Our Fukamushi Sencha is grown and made in one of the best terroirs in Kagoshima prefecture. In the Kagoshima region, the mild and mild climate, the often intense solar exposure and the particularly fertile volcanic soils give the tea from this region a refreshing and singularly powerful, intense character, with body and lots of Umami.
